She is passionate that families and children should be informed and empowered to make educational choices. |
![]() | EMILY LEWIS BA (Ed) QTS - Teacher of the Acorns group Since qualifying as a primary school teacher twenty years ago, I've focused on the alternative sector of education, as well as learning support in maths and literacy. I have been working at Acorns for four years now and I particularly enjoy giving children the opportunities to listen to each other, to learn to respect our individual natures and to be gentle and caring with each other and our environment. When I'm not teaching I love being a mum, bring in nature, cooking and gardening.

MAX - Teacher of Saplings group After completing an Ecology degree at Exeter and then a PGCE Max has worked in schools in Essex and Devon and managed curriculum in Maths, ICT, Science and P.E, Design and Technology. Other jobs have been many and varied: pressure testing North Sea oil pipelines and managing a boar, assistant manager of a camera shop, working in large theatres, ballets, rock bands, shows and films. His hobbies alone would fill another page - films, literature, knitting, making clothes and soft furnishings, woodwork and metalwork, pottery, sailing and racquet sports. He also does voluntary work for RNLI as a sea safety advisor. He is married with two boys and is currently writing a novel for teenagers. |
SALLY FISHER - Forest School leader Sally comes from a background of creative art and design and has been leading workshops for about 11 years. Having experienced the joy of home-educating her children for several years she retrained gaining a level 3 diploma in Playwork and a level 3 in Forest School Leadership. Her interests lie within facilitating elemental play combined with teaching in the outdoor environment. Sally has been involved with the Oakwood project for over 3 years and has worked on site with adult groups and children from 2-14. |
